Falafel was developed by those who traveled the
ancient spice routes in the Middle East centuries ago. They combined
garbanzo beans, yellow peas and a rich blend of spices to give a
delicious uniquely flavored finger food. As a result of its ease
of preparation, storage and nourishing qualities, Falafel became
a Middle Eastern culinary tradition.
With increased interests in ethnic foods and alternative
protein selections, our Falafel mix is bound to become a hit while
satisfying this growing demand.
INGRIDIENTS
Garbanzo Beans, Yellow Peas, Bulgar Wheat, Wheat
Germ, Spices, Baking Soda, Salt, Parsley, Onion and Garlic.
DIRECTIONS
Combine 2 cups Falafel Mix and 1-1/4 cups water
in a bowl. Stir until mix is thoroughly moistened. Let the mixture
stand for at least 15 minutes. Make small round balls (about the
size of a cherry) using damp hands or a melon ball scoop.
Cook Falafel balls in a deep fat fryer or a frying
pan in at least one inch of vegetable oil at approximately 350°F.
For best results, Falafel balls should be fried quickly until golden
brown (3-5 minutes).
RECOMMENDATIONS
Fill a pita pocket with our Falafel, salad
greens and salad dressing. Offer Falafel balls as an hors d'oeuvre
with a variety of sauces such as a Traditional Sesame Tahini Sauce
and Roquefort Sauce. Falafel shaped into a patty, cooked and served
on a bun with your favorite condiments is superb.
